Memorial Day 2012

In celebration of its 8th year, the Chicago Hash House Harriers are pleased to announce the brand new and improved Memorial Day. In the past we've given you just one day of fun and debauchery, but no more. We're going to use this extra special three day weekend to kick off all of the fun that Summer has in store for us.

Just like in year's past we're going to have an exceptionally shitty trail for you, some fun and games to be played at our beer stops, tasty brews to drink (Metropolitan and Half Acre will each be sponsoring a beer stop, and Goose Island is sponsoring the on-in), and an epic on-after at the history DANK Haus.

In order to keep things good and complicated, we're giving you the special option of registering for the entire weekend for the low-low price of $55 (plus paypal fees) or for just the debauchery of Sunday for the cost of $35 (both prices are until April 23rd), then the price will go up to $65/$45 until May 14th. Anything after that and you'll be charged $75/$55 and you'll miss out on whatever sweet swag we'll have for you. So be sure to rego today to ensure that you get everything.

Thursday - May 24th, 7pm - TH3 #444 - $8 - As always, the Chicago Hash House Harriers invites everyone to join our sister hash, Thirstday, to start the weekend early. Your $8 will get you a shitty trail down in Lincoln Park hared by IndyScent tranny Double Fister. Remember, if you call in sick on Friday that means you can turn this three day weekend into a four day weekend.

Friday - May 25th, 7pm - Memorial Day Weekend Pre-Lube/Foofdeck Cookout - $10 - Start off the weekend the right way with a trip to Party Central (aka Ruji's Foofdeck). It's Too Soft is being gracious enough to host us on his rooftop deck just step from the Diversey Brown Line stop. We'll tap the keg(s) and fire up the grill starting at 7pm on Friday night and enjoy the weather, food, beer, and maybe each other's company as visitors make their way into town. Who knows how late this party is going to go, but I bet there will be somebody up on that rooftop drinking all weekend long.

Saturday - May 26th, 12pm - Chicago H3 #1783 - $10 - Hares: Snatchsquatch & Just Ehhh The first of three trails that we have prepared for you this fine weekend. We'll be doing a sweet A-B woods run starting out of Gamblers (4908 N. Pulaski). Be sure to bring your shiggy socks for this one.

Saturday - May 26th, 7pm - Rag Time H3 Memorial Day Pub Crawl - Pay As You Go - Hares: Glitter Spitter & That Thing That Vibrates Now that you've got your run in you, its time to crawl. Glitter Spitter, That Thing That Vibrates and the other ladies of Rag Time H3 will be leading us on a lovely bar crawl up Lincoln Avenue and into Lincoln Square. Your rego doesn't cover this puppy, so be sure to bring some extra cash.

Sunday - May 27th, 3pm - Chicago H3 #1784- Memorial Day 2012 - $35-$55 - Hares: Virgin Banger & Various Co-Conspirators And now for the big prize - we'll be meeting up at O'Lanagan's in Lincoln Square for a good, long trail for the runners and a nice short one for the walkers. Virgin Banger and his band of merry men know the neighborhood better than anyone, so I've no doubt that they've got an epic trail planned for us. Your rego for the main even gets you an event tag, a swank shirt, two beer stops sponsored by local breweries (Metropolitan and Half Acre) and fun games to be played. All of this will take place before we wind up at the historic DANK Haus with an on-in sponsored by Goose Island, an epic circle RAed by Chicago Legend Calvin Klein on the patio (if it fits us this time), and delicious food. Rego early to save yourself some cash and ensure that you'll get the giveaways.

Monday - May 28th, 2pm - HO Hash - Memorial Day Hangover - $10 - Hares: Snatchsquatch If you're still alive after this epic weekend, be sure to spend your free day off of work thanks to the holiday with the Holiday Orphans (aka HO) Hash. Chicago H3 GM Snatchsquatch will be your hare on this exceptional day as Memorial Day proper falls on his birthday this year. What a treat, two shitty trails by the Chicago GM in one weekend.

Coming in from out of town? Not to worry. There are plenty of options for getting to and from Chicago. You can always fly in O'Hare (ORD) or Midway (MDW), take the Amtrack in to Union Station, take the Mega Bus, or you could even carpool up with your closest hash friends.

Need crash space? Don't worry about that either - shoot Two Girls, One Cupcake an email and she'll coordinate with the rest of the Chicago H3 group to set you up with the perfect crash space partner. Let her know how many people are coming, what nights you need crash space, and if you have any specific requests. If you'd rather find your own crash space you're also welcome to post a message either in the comments, in our Yahoo! Group, on our Facebook page, via e-mail, or over our twitter, and we'll do our best to set you up with a welcoming hasher. If you don't want to stay with hasher, that's cool too - the Chicago H3 suggests finding a room at the Days Inn Lincoln Park or at the Chicago Getaway Hostel, but be advised that no group rate has been procured from these institutions.

Let's get the weekend started off in style! We'll be opening up the festivities on Friday night this year with a relaxing cookout on the rooftop deck of Chicago hash legend It's Too Soft. If the weather cooperates we'll be tapping the kegs and firing up the grill starting at 7pm as people trickle into town for the weekend - there isn't going to be a trail, but your $10 will get you plenty of beer and food and hopefully the party will last long into the night.

Finally, get off the Brown Line at Diversey and make your way up Sheffield and around the block to 933 W. Wolfram. Head around back and take the stairs up to the rooftop.

Clean yourself up after making your way through the woods (or don't, its up to you) and make your way back into the city for a pub crawl hared by the lovely ladies of the Rag Time H3. We'll be starting at Jury's (4337 N. Lincoln) and making our way right up Lincoln Ave into Lincoln Square, so there's no chance you'll get lost on this one (though I'm sure some of you will find a way to get lost).

From Lincoln Park/Lakeview: Hop on the Brown Line and ride that sucker North to Western. Walk downstairs and head East/South on Lincoln Ave. Pass all of the bars that you're going to be stopping at during the course of the night before finding Jury's at the corner of Lincoln and Pensacola.
From Wicker Park/Bucktown: Take the 49 Western Bus North to Montrose. Hop off and hoof it East along Montrose. Pass O'Lanagan's (the starting bar for Memorial Day proper) over to Lincoln. Head South on Lincoln for a block to Jury's at the corner of Lincoln and Pensacola.

Hop in your hooptie and cruise to Lincoln and Pensacola - prepare to leave your car there, because only an idiot drives home after a pub crawl.

Drag yourselves up and work off the hangovers you earned last night drinking on the roofdeck by experiencing a true Chicago HHH rarity - a woods run! Our GM Snatchsquatch at Just Ehhh will be teaming up to lay trail starting at Gambler's (4908 N. Pulaski) and ending somewhere completely different. What's that? A woods run AND an A to B run all in one? Say it isn't so!? Hash cash will once again get your both beer and food and we promise to let you guys go on time to make the evening's festivities.

From Lincoln Park/Lakeview: Take the Red Line North to Lawrence. Head downstairs and hop on the 81 Lawrence bus heading West. Ride that sucker all the way to Pulaski. Resist the temptation to hit up the Admiral Theater (that place is BYOB anyway) and hoof it a block North on Pulaski to Gambler's. Bar is on the West side of the road.
From Wicker Park/Bucktown: Take the Blue Line to Irving Park. Take the exit down to Pulaski and hop on the 53 Pulaski bus heading North. Ride that sucker to Ainslie and you'll find the bar on the West side of the road.

Driving
Hop in your hooptie and cruise to Ainslie and Pulaski. Park your car and hope that the B isn't too far from the bar so that you can walk back to it after trail.

And now its time for the reason for the season. Memorial Day returns as we'll meet up at O'Lanagan's before setting out on trail. Show up early and show some support for this, one of our favorite hash bars.

Virgin Banger and his band of merry men will be responsible for this especially shitty trail, one that promises multiple beer stops sponsored by two of our favorite local breweries Half Acre and Metropolitan. Our on-in will once again be at the history DANK Haus and we'll have food, circle, and our beer will be brought to you by another Chicago favorite, Goose Island.

Be sure to rego before May 14th to save yourself some cash and ensure that you get some awesome swag in the form of a tag and a shirt.

If you're still alive after the weekend you're in luck, as since its a three day weekend that means that you've got an extra day of hashing ahead of you. More than that, Chicago GM Snatchsquatch will be turning the big XXX, so he's insisting on setting trail on this date. It may be a hangover run, it may not. Proceed at your own risk, or just try and get him completely wasted at Memorial Day to ensure that he'll set a short trail.

From da GM: The Chicago Hash House Harriers will be switching back to Mondays, which means that we're going to be doing our annual Polish Constitution Day Hash! Poland was actually the first country after the United States to adopt a democratic constitution, but the darned thing only lasted a year before the Russians showed up and made Poland their bitch. Again. Poland: getting double-teamed by Russia and Germany since 1025 AD!

Assignment: Beverage Station at "halfway" point on course

Location: Lakefront Running Path, at Monroe Street

The Beverage Station will be located on the concrete path that runs along the Lakefront, south of the Chicago Yacht Club at Monroe Harbor.on Lakefront. Remember - this is the Chicago Yacht Club - not the Columbia Yacht Club (the big "ship").....

All materials will be at the Site when we arrive.

Timeline:

- Plan to be "On Site" at the Beverage Station by 6:30 a.m.

- We will start pouring 5,000 cups of water and other hydration fluids upon arrival.

- Race starts at 8:00 a.m. sharp

- Last Participants pass Beverage Station by approximately 9:00 a.m.

- Clean up discarded cups, etc. as soon as "pack" thins out....

Parking: If you are planning on driving, there is no parking at Monroe Harbor. The East Monroe Underground Parking lot would be the closest Park District lot. There will be free parking for all Run to Remember volunteers at the Waldron Parking Structure (south of Soldier Field). However, keep in mind that this lot is about 2 miles away from the Beverage Station. So, if you use this lot, allow for time to walk 2 miles to our location.

Post-race party: At Finish Line Area, Soldier Field, Gold Star Families Memorial and Park.

Post-Post-race party: TBA, but its Cinco de Mayo, I'm sure that we'll be able to find someplace to drink.
