Actually, they already created an artificial black hole back in March of 2008. This time around they will be colliding particles at almost the speed of light which will mimic the conditions of what it was like during the first split second of the big bang. At that time and with the conditions like that our scientists are somewhat clueless about what was happening but have many theories and this particle collider will be able to give them answers... some of these answers may include proof of multiple dimensions of the universe! there are a lot more interesting things they may find out about the universe and life as we know it so it's worth an extra few months to wait.
